Welcome back to Day 2 of our 12 days of Christmas! The 1st day of our blog hop was fantastic. If you missed it click here.
One of my fondest memories growing up, was watching Christmas movies with my family. Till this day, my family and I watch these old Christmas classics. So today's project is all about Rudolph the red nose reindeer movie. About 10 years ago, I came across an estate sale and struck up a conversation with the daughter, of the woman who use to live in the home. She shared with me her mother's love of painting, woodworking and how she taught art at the college in town. Her paintings were beautiful, but I found what caught my eye, were these lovely reindeers her mother made. She said her mom made those reindeers years ago, when they were children and she would put them out every Christmas. I fell in love with those reindeers, because they held sweet memories and isn't that what Christmas is all about?

After having these reindeers for 10 years, I knew they needed some TLC. These next two pictures are the before. You can see the wood is dry and the painted parts look dull.
I gave these reindeers a light sanding and wiped clean. Next I gave the face a fresh coat of paint and when the paint was dry, I applied clear wax by the Milk paint company. As you can see from the pic on the left, is the before and the right is the after.
These lovely reindeers are looking beautiful and I know they will be around for a long time. I also replace the red nose.
You can see the top picture is the before and the rest are after. Goodbye worn and dull and hello gorgeous!
Thank you for stopping by.

Such a sweet story of how you came to own your Rudolph and Clarice. Nice makeover. Even though we are empty nesters we always watch Rudolph.
ReplyDeleteI love all the cartoon Christmas classics like Rudolph! Those reindeer are adorable!

So sweet, love the story and the makeover...and of course, everyone loves Rudolph!
ReplyDeleteLove your re-do. What are the chances of tracing those pieces, and sharing the pattern? I've looked everywhere and can't find that woodcraft pattern. Would love to make them.
ReplyDeleteThey look great! I actually saw some of them in the thrift store this summer, now I'm wishing I'd grabbed them (they were pretty shabby, the ones I saw).
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet little reindeers, and a lovely little backstory for them!
ReplyDeleteHow precious and what nice memories. The reindeer look brand new.
