Fall Subway Art

Fall is in full swing and before you know it we will be getting ready for Christmas. How time flies. Fall season is my favorite time of the year but I miss out on this season since I live in the south. It's hot and nothing about heat and green trees reminds me of fall, but I will incorporate all the warm fall colors in my home to remind me of those cool mornings, leaves turning and pumpkins. I am sharing my fall subway sign. This fun and easy project is great with my fall decor. Supplies for burlap sign:

Picture frame of any size
Paint - I used Warm Buff and Sweet Potato by Apple Barrel
Stencils or print out of words you can trace
A foam board cut to size to fit your frame

I don't have a Silhouette or Cricut machine so I have been using PicMonkey, I created words which reminds me of fall. I used different fonts and sizes when creating these words. Once I was happy with my subway sign I printed the words. Next, I cut the words apart and positioned the words in order on the burlap. Once I figured out the positions of the wording I snapped a picture.

Next, I cut the foam board down to size to fit my frame and using the warm buff paint, I painted two coats on my foam board. I set the board aside and let it dry.

Once the words are created, I placed the fabric over the words and using a skinny paint brush, I hand painted each letter. See picture on the left. This part is tedious but I enjoy painting, so it was easy for me. Once all the words are painted, I hot glued the burlap to the foam board. See picture on the right.

Here is the finished product and now I can leave this lovely burlap sign up till Thanksgiving. What's there not to love about that. I added another burlap pillow project I created using the same technique.

  18. This is so cute! We don't celebrate Halloween so I'm always on the lookout for cute fall decor. I have yards and yards of burlap (and a few picture frames that are missing the glass)so this project is totally doable without a trip to the store!

I'll be sure to tag you when I make it and share on social media!
